Robin Williams death was a tragic loss. He was a great hero to many. To think that anyone could ever call someone who battles depression a coward or selfish is completely uninformed. Studies show that the typical thoughts of a depressed person are along the lines of making others lives better by ending their own. If anything that is one of the least selfish thoughts. Misguided, yes, painful to hear, yes, but not selfish. As someone who battled depression for many years let me help you understand a little bit more, depression is like having nightmares every night and every day. Everything you see and do is skewed in your own mind. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes many of these thoughts. For those of you fighting this I am telling you now it is a long, hard fight and will not be over quickly. However even when things get difficult do not give up, do your best to make others happier around you, help them, volunteer, become someone you want to be because you can do it. You can fight this and you can win. I’m still fighting but I have faith that one day all this fighting within myself will be worth it and I will see all of the good that I have done. You have a strong and amazing soul, if you ever need anyone to talk to I am a message away. You are loved, you are cared for, you are hurt, and you can be healed.
